Personal Emergency Response Services (PERS)
PERS technology allows frail, elderly and/or disabled persons to remain in the comfort and security of their own home, thus avoiding inappropriate and expensive institutional care.
We estimate our members provide PERS services to in excess of 100,000 clients widely dispersed throughout Australia in both urban and rural areas. PERS equipment is provided to a further 50,000 people (approx.) in residential aged care facilities (independent living and self care apartments) using staff monitoring of residents calls.
PERS systems mainly consist of a personal radio transmitter pendant and an automatic telephone dialer, typically located in individual’s homes. When a client activates their PERS pendant the telephone dialer receives the transmission and commences a series of telephone calls to manned 24 hour emergency response centre. An appropriate emergency response is then initiated.
The PERS service is provided under State and Government assistance schemes or is self funded by individuals. The Department of Veteran Affairs and State and federal Departments of Health are large funders of PERS Systems in Australia. |
